Regio Noord | Light Rules

Maintenance of public lighting (openbare verlichting) is expensive. It costs over €200 million each year for Dutch municipalities. Over 50% of this maintenance costs relate to lack of appropriate asset data and lack of knowledge on the nature of the equipment failure. For example, the cause of failure (either lamp, driver, cable, connector, grid or something else) is often unknown when a street lamp fails. Due to this, a maintenance contractor (aannemer) often has to visit the fault location two or three times to resolve an issue, which drives up costs for municipalities...New standards are being adopted rapidly in street lighting (Zhaga book 18), this provides access to advanced analytical data (DALI D4I) and API based interoperability. These features offer.Tvilight Projects BV (Tvilight) and Montad Elektrotechnisch Adviesbureau BV (Montad) the opportunity to develop a breakthrough solution for smart maintenance. It is the first time in history that detailed data on grid analytics, luminaire and driver health information are available in real time...This MIT R&D project (Light Rules platform) will use this big data stream as an input to accurately pin-point the exact issue as well as exact solution/ part-number that requires maintenance or replacement. Light Rules is a rule based analytical engine able to process large real-time data to provide accurate smart notification alert...Smart notifications offer significant benefits..- The maintenance contractor does not need to visit the site twice or thrice, thereby saving at least 40% in cost and over 25% improvement in work efficiency..- response time improvement of 80%, increasing citizen safety..- Inventory of maintenance equipment can be reduced, resulting in further savings...Tvilight (Groningen) and Montad (Assen) bring together right expertise, and complement each others knowledge gaps. Together they will research, develop and prototype (and eventually commercialize) the Light Rules platform. This development strengthens the position of both companies and.The Netherlands as a whole in the lighting sector...This project is strongly aligned with two Topsectors and is at the leading edge of current technology developments.- HTSM (themes: sustainability, security and mobility; Lighting Roadmap).- Topsector Energy (themes: system integration)..Through this development Tvilight and Montad aim to prepare the whole public lighting infrastructure to aid in a stable and sustainable energy grid in the Netherlands.
