Regio Overijssel | NEW PRODUCTION METHOD OF INJECTABLE MICROCAPSULES FOR PULSATILE VACCINE DELIVERY

IamFluidics has recently developed a platform technology, 'in-air microfluidics', which .enables the production of high quality (uniform/monodisperse) microparticles at.industrial production speeds. Various product/market combinations are possible based .on these microparticles..In the pharmaceutical sector, there is a market-driven innovation need for the pulsatile.vaccine release system by a single injection. This is often achieved by encapsulation of an .active vaccine in (micro)particles of polylactic acid with multiple releasing profiles. By .combining these vaccine loaded different microcapsules, pulsatile release can be .achieved. The more controllable the microcapsules are, the more precisely the vaccine.release at the desired time can be achieved..As a result, a single injection for pulsatile vaccine delivery is ultimately required, and .there are fewer costs and side effects per treatment..In this project, IamFluidics investigates the technical and economic feasibility of their ‘in.air microfluidics' technology for the production of polylactic acid microparticles .(microcapsules) for controlled vaccine delivery. If successful, the project will deliver a first .technical proof-of-concept, as well as show what the best market entry strategy is .through which partners, what the market developments are in the regulated drug .delivery, and what the requirements are in terms of quality, price, and form of .cooperation of the intended market partners.
